Joining us on Gossip Station is our fabulous new client Jennifer Fleming from British boyswear brand Laundry Tribe. We first met Jennifer at KIDSARCADE and she has been on our radar ever since. So, you can only imagine our excitement at finally being able to welcome LT to the Alegre family. Without, any further babbling from us, let’s get to it and welcome Jennifer on the show so we can discover more about her and the brand…
Jennifer, thank you so much for joining us. Can you start off by telling us about your background…
Hi everyone, I’m Jennifer the Founder of Laundry Tribe. Where do I start ? I decided as a teenager that I wanted to be a fashion designer, and no one could convince me other wise. I went to the University of Northumbria where I did my degree in Fashion Design, and it was there, while on a work placement with John Richmond, that I discovered the role of buyer. From that moment on, I was going to be a fashion buyer! That was a decision that I stuck to for nearly 20yrs, working for brands including Topshop/Topman, Republic, Miss Selfridge, and Just Jeans (Australia).
That’s incredible! What a career to date you have had so far! So why did you decide to just do a brand for boys?
While in Australia, I was involved in designing and launching a kid’s brand. Parents and retailers kept asking if we could do more boys, and that message was echoed with everyone that we spoke too, anywhere around the world. There was a hunger in the market for more boys’ fashion. The boys were clearly feeling left out.
When I returned to the UK, my mission was clear and I had a focus on what I was to do. I was to develop and design a brand just for the boys. BUT the funny thing now is that people keep asking me if we are ever going to include girls.
You can never win can you but that’s a huge compliment on your designs! Why did you choose the name Laundry Tribe?
In a nutshell, boys will be boys, and so the laundry basket is always full, and it’s always more fun hanging out with your friends. Like ‘squad goals’ but as a ‘tribe.’
We like that concept. AND it is so true, it is always fun to be amongst good friends to share and create memories with. Who is your male fashion icon?
There are a few, but it would have to be Pharrell Williams.
What a choice we LOVE his style! What can we expect for SS17?
The collection is called ‘Urban Resort.’ It’s where street style meets resort and nods towards body ink & street art for print and embroidery inspiration. This is all then mixed back with Hawaiian Camo. It’s a bit eclectic.
We have stayed true to our roots, and looked to the grown ups for styling, and have all of the attention to detail that people have come to expect from us.
This sounds absolutely ah-mazing! We are so excited to see it and are sure that people are going to love seeing it for the FIRST time.
Thank you so much for joining us and sharing some insider info with us. We are so excited to have you as part of the Alegre family.
